"Back in 2021, I started designing patterns in Illustrator, but I was never happy with the results.

My original work is watercolor, gouache, or sketchy by nature—and Illustrator made it feel stiff and overly digital, with pointy lines and angles that just didn’t reflect my art.

I had tried Photoshop here and there, mostly self-taught, but I always felt stuck and overwhelmed by all the options.

Everyone would say, ‘Oh, there are so many ways to do that in Photoshop,’ which honestly left me more confused.

Mindy’s Digitize Your Art course has completely changed that. I finally feel confident creating patterns in Photoshop that actually look like my original artwork. I can edit without ruining a whole file, adjust backgrounds, resize patterns easily, export properly, and keep everything organized for my workflow. "I thought I knew quite a bit about the capabilities of Photoshop for surface pattern design. Mindy dispelled all that! I loved her easy to follow lessons and all the new to me tools I discovered! This is my attempt at using the half drop template. 

 

It was so much fun to create this…from painting the individual motifs in watercolor to using Mindy’s desing principles of design (using triangles within the placement) to making this magic in pattern preview. I’m now much more excited to try new patterns. Thanks, Mindy!
